Founder's Story
At 23, Dr. Tonse Madhava Anantapai had every reason to leave. A newly qualified doctor, a young family, and surgical instruments already purchased for a life abroad, he was ready. Until a conversation with his mother changed everything. She reminded him of his duty to his motherland and his fellow people. He put down his plans and picked up something far greater. What followed was one of independent India's most extraordinary acts of institution-building.
From a forgotten stretch of land along the Karnataka coast — a village called Mannupala — Dr. T. M. A. Pai built an entire world: hospitals, banks, schools, colleges, and opportunities for people who had never been told they deserved them. The place the world now knows as Manipal grew not just from geography, but from one man's refusal to leave it behind.
He co-founded Syndicate Bank on the belief that no man was too small for financial dignity. He established Kasturba Medical College in 1953, Manipal Institute of Technology in 1957, and continued building long after most would have stopped. Ripley's Believe It or Not once featured him for founding the greatest number of institutions in a single lifetime.
Learning Led by Expert Educators
Several teachers at Manipal School have completed CBSE's Training of Trainers programme, conducted in collaboration with the Institute of Secretariat Training and Management (ISTM) under the Government of India. This is a rigorous professional qualification, not a routine training requirement.
Teachers who earn this certification are designated as Resource Persons for CBSE Capacity Building Programmes, enabling them to train and mentor educators across schools. The programme covers advanced facilitation skills, adult learning methodologies, ICT integration in the classroom, assessment design, mentoring techniques, and implementation of NEP 2020 frameworks.
